Statement
Thomas Geyer - surreal figurative rays of hope
Looking at Thomas Geyer's works, one gets the feeling of being stuck in a pictorial story without a serial character. His pictures thematically revolve around a repetitive idea, a motif or a feeling. Geyers uses landscapes as a playground for various scenarios. His works are surreal, dark, atmospheric, mysterious, sometimes ironic. He constructs images, places his actors - mostly animals - in partly visible, partly hidden habitats.
In the dramatic conflict between light and dark, day and night, visible and invisible, Geyer's pictures radiate peace and harmony. By means of his egg tempera painting technique, an ancient, elaborate method, he sensitively applies thin colour glazes layer by layer.
