André Schulze – reinterpretation of famous masterpieces
"I am fascinated by the world of yesterday. I like to confront this with our present time in a humorous way. No matter if in my contemporary paintings or in the vintage paintings, to combine opposites is my passion. "
German painter André Schulze was always fascinated by the colourful graffiti in his hometown, which led him to experiment with graffiti himself and later to study fine arts. Schulze is fascinated by things from the past: architecture, advertising, technology and cars. Schulze often works with photographic templates that he has taken himself or pulled from old magazines and books, and then reassembles these images in his oil paintings, enriching them with surreal or ironic details.
