Steve Lewis - surreal figurative rays of light
The painted series entitled "Interior Series" delve into the imaginative realm of an AI painting studio/exhibition space. These interiors are creative havens adorned with paintings and objects. Figures, objects, and spaces blend and diverge, blurring the lines between creator and creation. Viewers are transported to a realm reminiscent of dreamlike states, prompting introspection on perception, comprehension, and belief.
Visual references created with AI text-to-image generators, influence the composition, color palette, and forms within the artwork. Text prompts were used to solicit predictions of successful yet-to-be-created figurative paintings by future artists collaborating with AI, to be showcased in prestigious NYC galleries. Results present figures intertwined with the art, challenging traditional notions of authorship and artistic creation. This exploration raises questions on the role of AI as a creative tool versus artists as conduits producing AI’s innovative works of art.
